Mutual Fund Calculator FAQ
What does this mutual fund calculator estimate?
It estimates a projected final NAV after gross fund performance, subscription fees, annual fund expenses, and redemption fees. It also separates each charge so you can see how much value is lost to fees.
What is the performance rate?
Performance is the assumed annual gross rate of return before fund operating expenses and investor-level charges. It is not a prediction or guarantee.
Is the subscription fee the same as a sales charge?
In this calculator, yes. The subscription fee is treated as a front-end sales charge deducted from each investment amount before money is invested.
Is the redemption fee the same as a deferred sales charge?
It is modeled similarly. The redemption fee is applied when the investment is sold, like a deferred sales charge or back-end load.
What are total expenses?
Total expenses represent ongoing fund operating expenses, such as management fees and other permitted fund costs. The calculator approximates them as daily accrual from projected fund value using annual expenses / 365. Actual funds may use different accounting conventions and may have costs not included here.
Is investor IRR the same as the fund return?
No. Investor IRR is a money-weighted annualized return based on the initial investment, recurring contributions, all modeled fees, and the final NAV. It can differ from the fund performance rate because contribution timing and charges matter.
Does this cover all real mutual fund costs?
No. Actual costs can include taxes, transaction costs, bid-ask spreads, swing pricing, dilution adjustments, account fees, or share-class-specific rules. Use the fund prospectus or KID/KIID for real decisions.
