Area Calculator FAQ
How do you calculate the surface area of a cone?
For a cone with radius r and slant height l, the lateral surface area is πrl and the total surface area is πrl + πr². This calculator can also derive the slant height from radius and vertical height when needed.
What is the difference between total surface area and lateral surface area of a cone?
The lateral surface area includes only the sloped outer surface. The total surface area includes both the outer surface and the circular base.
Can I calculate the area from the diameter and height?
Yes. If you know the diameter and height, the calculator converts diameter to radius, finds the slant height, and then calculates the requested cone area.
Can this calculator work backwards from the cone area?
Yes. You can solve for a missing radius, diameter, height, or slant height when the cone surface area is already known and the remaining values define a real cone.
When is a cone surface area calculator useful?
It is useful for geometry, paper models, funnels, hoppers, containers, packaging, and any project where you need the outer area or covering area of a cone.
