This free online scientific calculator handles both everyday arithmetic and advanced math functions. Switch between Basic mode for standard calculations and Scientific mode to access sin, cos, tan, log, ln, square root, powers, and more.
Use it directly in your browser — no download, no sign-up. Results update live as you type. You can also use your keyboard: digits, + - * / ^ ( ), Enter for equals, and Esc to clear.
Frequently asked questions about the scientific calculator
How do I use the scientific calculator?
Select Scientific mode to reveal function buttons such as sin, cos, log, and √. Enter numbers and functions in sequence — the expression is shown on the top line and the running result on the bottom. Press = to confirm.
Can I type on my keyboard instead of clicking buttons?
Yes. Use the number keys, + - * / for operators, ^ for powers, ( and ) for parentheses, Enter or = to evaluate, Backspace to delete, and Esc to clear.
How do I calculate sin, cos, or tan?
Switch to Scientific mode, press the DEG or RAD button to choose your angle unit, then press sin, cos, or tan, enter the angle, and close the parenthesis before pressing =. For example: sin(30) in DEG mode returns 0.5.
What is the difference between log and ln?
log is the base-10 logarithm (common logarithm), so log(100) = 2. ln is the natural logarithm (base e), so ln(e) = 1. Both are available in Scientific mode.
How do I enter powers and exponents?
Use the xʸ button (or press ^ on your keyboard) followed by the exponent. For example, 2^10 gives 1024. For squares and cubes, use the dedicated x² and x³ buttons.
What does the DEG / RAD toggle do?
It sets the angle unit for trigonometric functions. DEG = degrees (0–360), RAD = radians (0–2π). Make sure the correct unit is selected before computing sin, cos, or tan.
Can I use parentheses in my calculation?
Yes. Press ( and ) to group terms and control order of operations. For example, (2+3)×4 gives 20, not 14. Open parentheses are auto-closed when you press =.
